Being the “one & only”
Tired of being the most ambitious person in the room
Last year was the first year I truly didn’t feel alone.
I met my online friends IRL.
I went to conferences surrounded by people like me.
I finally wasn’t the most “ambitious person in the room.”
I’m closer to my online friends more than my IRL friends.
It’s weird, but it’s true.
My friend and I catch up for our monthly “online business therapy” sessions, and we both agree that there are times where we just “can’t relate.”
Because while everybody around you is worrying about their end of year performance review,
You’re trying to figure out how to reduce your end of year tax burden.
While people complain about their shitty boss,
You’re trying to figure out how to not be that “shitty boss” AND motivate your employees to do good work.
While everyone around you is telling you “fuck capitalism, businesses are all evil,”
You’re trying to be a business that actually makes a positive difference on the world.
At times it can be a hard burden to carry.
